„The whole of life is but a moment of time. It is our duty, therefore to use it, not to misuse it.“

—  Plutarch, buch Moralia

Moralia, Of the Training of Children
Variante: The whole life of man is but a point of time; let us enjoy it, therefore, while it lasts, and not spend it to no purpose.

„But for the sake of some little mouthful of flesh we deprive a soul of the sun and light, and of that proportion of life and time it had been born into the world to enjoy.“

—  Plutarch, buch Moralia

I, 4
Moralia, Of Eating of Flesh
Kontext: For the sake of some little mouthful of flesh, we deprive a soul of the sun and light, and of that proportion of life and time it had been born into the world to enjoy. And then we fancy that the voices it utters and screams forth to us are nothing else but certain inarticulate sounds and noises, and not the several deprecations, entreaties, and pleadings of each of them.
