Jair Messias Bolsonaro [ʒaˈiʁ bowsoˈnaɾu] ist ein brasilianischer Politiker. Infolge seines Wahlsiegs im Oktober 2018 ist er designierter Staatspräsident Brasiliens; am 1. Januar 2019 wird er als Nachfolger von Michel Temer dieses Amt antreten.
Der ehemalige Fallschirmjäger-Hauptmann vertritt seit 1991 einen Wahlkreis des Bundesstaats Rio de Janeiro in der Abgeordnetenkammer des brasilianischen Kongresses. Dabei wechselte er mehrfach die Parteizugehörigkeit; seit 2018 gehört er der Partido Social Liberal an. Bolsonaro vertritt gesellschaftspolitisch rechtskonservative und neoliberale Positionen. Er erlangte vor allem mit frauenfeindlichen, schwulenfeindlichen, rassistischen und die brasilianische Militärdiktatur verteidigenden Äußerungen Aufmerksamkeit. Die brasilianische Präsidentschaftswahl 2018 gewann er im zweiten Wahlgang mit 55,1 % der Stimmen.
