So zum Beispiel fallen Männer oft beim Anblick ihres eigenen Bluts in Ohnmacht, weil sie nicht daran gewöhnt sind. Aus diesem Grund sollte man sich auch beim Blutspenden in der Rot-Kreuz-Klinik in der Schlange nie hinter einen Mann stellen. Aus irgendeinem geheimnisvollen Grund finden die Männer das Leben viel schwieriger als die Frauen. (Das glaubt meine Mutter trotz der gefangenen, kranken, verschwundenen oder verlassenen weiblichen Körper, die durch ihre Geschichten geistern.) Männern muß es erlaubt sein, in einem Sandkasten ihrer eigenen Wahl zu spielen, so glücklich wie sie nur können, ohne dabei gestört zu werden, weil sie sonst zu nörgeln anfangen und ihr Essen stehen lassen. Es gibt alle möglichen Dinge, die Männer einfach nicht verstehen können, weil sie nicht dafür geschaffen sind, warum es also von ihnen erwarten? Nicht alle teilen diese Meinung über Männer; trotzdem hat sie sich als nützlich erwiesen.“

People see visions — of angels going up and down ladders, of fiery chariots — and, like Moses, who hears a bush talking, and Balaam the prophet who has a conversation with his donkey, they hear voices of those who cannot be said to be present in any usual sense of the word.
