Georg II. August war von 1727 bis zu seinem Tod König von Großbritannien und Irland, deutscher Kurfürst von Braunschweig-Lüneburg und nominell einer der Herzöge zu Braunschweig und Lüneburg.
Er war der zweite König aus dem Haus Hannover und der letzte britische Monarch, der außerhalb von Großbritannien zur Welt kam und der persönlich Truppen in die Schlacht führte. Er war Verbündeter von Maria Theresia im Österreichischen Erbfolgekrieg und von Friedrich II. im Siebenjährigen Krieg.
Der mit Caroline von Ansbach verheiratete Georg II. war für seine zahlreichen Konflikte mit seinem Vater Georg I. und später mit seinem ältesten Sohn Friedrich Ludwig bekannt.
