Nicolas Sarkozy ist ein französischer Politiker. Von 2007 bis 2012 war er Staatspräsident der Französischen Republik. Im zweiten Halbjahr 2008 bekleidete Sarkozy das Amt des Vorsitzenden des Europäischen Rates. Von 2004 bis 2007 war Sarkozy Parteivorsitzender der konservativen Union pour un mouvement populaire , von November 2014 bis August 2016 war er es erneut; in dieser Zeit benannte sich die Partei in Les Républicains um.
2012 verlor er die Präsidentschaftswahl gegen François Hollande, den Kandidaten der Parti socialiste . Sarkozy bewarb sich im November 2016 vergeblich um eine erneute Kandidatur für die Präsidentschaftswahl 2017. Wikipedia
