John Macdonald Zitate

Sir John Alexander Macdonald, GCB, KCMG, QC war der erste Premierminister von Kanada. Er war zweimal im Amt, zunächst vom 1. Juli 1867 bis zum 5. Dezember 1873 und danach vom 17. Oktober 1878 bis zu seinem Tod. Mit einer Amtszeit von insgesamt über 19 Jahren ist er der am zweitlängsten regierende Premierminister des Landes. Als einer der Väter der Konföderation gehört Macdonald zu den Wegbereitern des 1867 gegründeten kanadischen Bundesstaates, auch war er eine treibende Kraft der 1885 vollendeten transkontinentalen Eisenbahnlinie.
