Jerry Eugene Pournelle war ein US-amerikanischer Journalist und Science-Fiction-Schriftsteller. International bekannt wurde er vor allem für die Werke, die in der Zusammenarbeit mit Larry Niven entstanden. Einem breiteren amerikanischen Publikum war Pournelle als Computerexperte bekannt, denn er schrieb ab 1982 eine vielbeachtete Kolumne in der Fachzeitschrift Byte.
