Stuart McPhail Hall war ein britischer Soziologe und zählte zu den wichtigsten Intellektuellen marxistischer Orientierung. Als einer der Begründer und Hauptvertreter der Cultural Studies beschäftigte er sich vor allem mit kulturellen Praktiken und gab antikolonialistischen und antiimperialistischen Bewegungen wichtige Impulse.

Er prägte den Begriff „Thatcherismus“ und war Mitbegründer der „New Left“.

Stuart Hall galt als einer der führenden Kulturtheoretiker Großbritanniens.
