Ned Rorem war ein US-amerikanischer Komponist und Literat.
Rorem studierte in Philadelphia, Tanglewood sowie an der Juilliard School. 1949 ging er für neun Jahre nach Frankreich. Wichtige Lehrer waren Bernard Wagenaar, Aaron Copland, Virgil Thomson und in Frankreich Arthur Honegger. Später erhielt er selbst Professuren für Komposition in Buffalo, Salt Lake City und Philadelphia. Neben vielen anderen Ehrungen wurde er 1976 mit dem Pulitzer-Preis ausgezeichnet. Rorem war Komponist zahlreicher Lieder, schrieb aber auch Opern, Orchesterwerke und Kammermusik. Außerdem trat er literarisch hervor; besonders bekannt wurde das autobiographische Paris Diary.
