Mae West war eine US-amerikanische Filmschauspielerin und Drehbuchautorin, die vor allem im Hollywood der 1930er Jahre zu den bestbezahlten Filmstars zählte. Als Inbegriff der Femme fatale brach sie etliche damals gültige sexuelle Tabus, indem sie beruflich wie auch privat die Freiheit der Liebe und Gleichheit der Geschlechter proklamierte. Von 1911 bis 1942 war sie mit dem Jazz-Sänger Frank Wallace verheiratet.
