Mulk Raj Anand war ein indischer Roman- und Kurzgeschichtenautor sowie Kunstkritiker.
Er schrieb seine Texte in Englisch. Anand war einer der ersten Schriftsteller, die die indischen Panjabi- und Hindustani-Dialekte ins Englische übertragen haben. In seinen Arbeiten zeichnete Anand ein realistisches und sympathisches Bild der Armen in Indien. Mulk Raj Anand, Raja Rao und R. K. Narayan werden mitunter als „Gründungsväter des indischen Romans“ bezeichnet.
