Ben Hecht war ein US-amerikanischer Journalist, Schriftsteller, Drehbuchautor und Filmregisseur. Er war einer der begehrtesten Drehbuchautoren Hollywoods und arbeitete mit Regisseuren wie Alfred Hitchcock, Howard Hawks, Otto Preminger, John Ford und Ernst Lubitsch an einigen der bekanntesten Werke der Filmgeschichte mit, wobei er sich gleichermaßen auf das Schreiben von Dramen, Thrillern und Komödien verstand.
