Juan Evo Morales Ayma ist seit dem 22. Januar 2006 Präsident Boliviens. Er ist Führer der sozialistischen bolivianischen Partei Movimiento al Socialismo und der Bewegung für die Rechte der Coca-Bauern.
Evo Morales gewann mit 54 Prozent der Stimmen die vorgezogenen Präsidentschaftswahlen am 18. Dezember 2005. Er wurde damit als erster Indígena Staatsoberhaupt von Bolivien und errang den deutlichsten Wahlsieg seit Ende der letzten Militärregierung 1982. Bei der Präsidentenwahl vom Dezember 2009 übertraf er mit einer Zustimmung von 64 Prozent der Bürger das Ergebnis von 2005. 2014 wurde Morales abermals mit großer Mehrheit von 61 Prozent wiedergewählt.Morales’ Markenzeichen sind sein Pullover und eine darübergeworfene traditionelle Lederjacke , die er zur Betonung seiner indigenen Abstammung auch bei seiner Weltreise zu Staatsoberhäuptern anlässlich seiner Einführung als Präsident trug.
Im Oktober 2009 wurde Morales von der Generalversammlung der Vereinten Nationen zum „World Hero of Mother Earth“ ernannt.
