Mohammad Reza Pahlavi entstammte der Herrscherdynastie Pahlavi und war der letzte iranische Schah.

Nach der Abdankung seines Vaters Reza Schah Pahlavi im Zuge der anglo-sowjetischen Invasion des Iran bestieg er am 17. September 1941 den Thron. Mit Unterstützung der Vereinigten Staaten errichtete Pahlavi in der Folge ein autoritäres Regime und ließ die Opposition durch den Geheimdienst SAVAK unterdrücken. Am 26. Oktober 1967 krönte er sich zum Schahanschah .

Die Ereignisse der Islamischen Revolution unter Ruhollah Chomeini führten 1979 zum Sturz der Monarchie und Pahlavi verließ am 16. Januar 1979 den Iran. Wikipedia
