Mai 2014 wieder frei, dieses galt als „Heimkehr von ‚Amerikas letztem Gefangenen aus den Kriegen im Irak und in Afghanistan‘“. Als Gegenleistung übergaben die USA fünf Guantánamo-Häftlinge an Katar.
