Wikipedia

Stephen Colbert: Zitate auf Englisch

“As excited as I am to be here with the president, I am appalled to be surrounded by the liberal media that is destroying America — with the exception of Fox News.”

Stephen Colbert

White House Correspondents' Association Dinner (2006)
Kontext: As excited as I am to be here with the president, I am appalled to be surrounded by the liberal media that is destroying America — with the exception of Fox News. Fox News gives you both sides of every story: the president's side, and the vice president's side. But the rest of you, what are you thinking, reporting on NSA wiretapping or secret prisons in eastern Europe? Those things are secret for a very important reason: they're super-depressing. And if that's your goal, well, misery accomplished. Over the last five years you people were so good — over tax cuts, WMD intelligence, the effect of global warming. We Americans didn't want to know, and you had the courtesy not to try to find out. Those were good times, as far as we knew.

“We claim no respectability. There's no status I would not surrender for a joke.”

Stephen Colbert

Rolling Stone interview (31 October 2006)
Kontext: We claim no respectability. There's no status I would not surrender for a joke. So we don't have to defend anything.

“I stand by this man. I stand by this man because he stands for things. Not only for things, he stands on things.”

Stephen Colbert

White House Correspondents' Association Dinner (2006)
Kontext: I stand by this man. I stand by this man because he stands for things. Not only for things, he stands on things. Things like aircraft carriers and rubble and recently flooded city squares. And that sends a strong message, that no matter what happens to America, she will always rebound — with the most powerfully staged photo ops in the world.

“And reality has a well-known liberal bias.”

Stephen Colbert

White House Correspondents' Association Dinner (2006)
Kontext: I know there are some polls out there saying this man has a 32% approval rating. But guys like us, we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in "reality." And reality has a well-known liberal bias.

“Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it.”

Stephen Colbert

Knox College commencement address http://www.knox.edu/colbert.xml (3 June 2006) <br class="br">Kontext: Don’t be afraid to be a fool. Remember, you cannot be both young and wise. Young people who pretend to be wise to the ways of the world are mostly just cynics. Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don’t learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying yes begins things. Saying yes is how things grow. Saying yes leads to knowledge. &quot;Yes&quot; is for young people. So for as long as you have the strength to, say yes.
