„Night, the shadow of light,
And Life, the shadow of death.“

—  Algernon Charles Swinburne English poet, playwright, novelist, and critic 1837 - 1909

Second chorus, lines 1-12.
Atalanta in Calydon (1865)
Kontext: Before the beginning of years
There came to the making of man
Time with a gift of tears,
Grief with a glass that ran,
Pleasure with pain for leaven,
Summer with flowers that fell,
Remembrance fallen from heaven,
And Madness risen from hell,
Strength without hands to smite,
Love that endures for a breath;
Night, the shadow of light,
And Life, the shadow of death.

Speaking of a dream not fully remembered, in Fragments of a Journal (1966)
Kontext: I am told, in a dream... you can only get the answer to all your questions through a dream. So in my dream, I fall asleep, and I dream, in my dream, that I'm having that absolute, revealing dream.

„When I was journeying (in a dream of the night)“

—  William Morris, buch A Dream of John Ball

Quelle: A Dream of John Ball (1886), Ch. 1: The Men of Kent
Kontext: When I was journeying (in a dream of the night) down the well-remembered reaches of the Thames betwixt Streatley and Wallingford, where the foothills of the White Horse fall back from the broad stream, I came upon a clear-seen mediæval town standing up with roof and tower and spire within its walls, grey and ancient, but untouched from the days of its builders of old. All this I have seen in the dreams of the night clearer than I can force myself to see them in dreams of the day. So that it would have been nothing new to me the other night to fall into an architectural dream if that were all, and yet I have to tell of things strange and new that befell me after I had fallen asleep.

„When I am asleep, I dream what I dream when I am awake. It's a continuous dream.“

—  Antonio Porchia Italian Argentinian poet 1885 - 1968

Durmiendo sueño lo que despierto sueño. Y mi soñar es continuo.
