„Once a junky, always a junky. You can stop using junk, but you are never off after the first habit.“

—  William S. Burroughs American novelist, short story writer, essayist, painter, and spoken word performer 1914 - 1997
Context: Why does an addict get a new habit so much quicker than a junk virgin, even after the addict has been clean for years? I do not accept the theory that junk is lurking in the body all that time - the spine is where it supposedly holes up - and I disagree with all psychological answers. I think the use of junk causes permanent cellular alteration. Once a junky, always a junky. You can stop using junk, but you are never off after the first habit.

„Life is a beautiful, magnificent thing, even to a jellyfish.“

—  Charlie Chaplin British comic actor and filmmaker 1889 - 1977
Context: Life is a beautiful, magnificent thing, even to a jellyfish. … The trouble is you won't fight. You've given up. But there's something just as inevitable as death. And that's life. Think of the power of the universe — turning the Earth, growing the trees. That's the same power within you — if you'll only have the courage and the will to use it. Calvero's answer to Terry's question: "What is there to fight for?" in Limelight (1952)
